- Chessmaster 9000
- levels: from beginner to grandmaster
- It's, obviously, the most popular chess program. The
program has a very rich interface. It can solve chess problems, has a big chess data of
games. There is a lot of levels and artificial "opponents". Probably, the best
choice for beginners, children and not strong amateurs.

- Fritz 8
- levels: from beginner to grandmaster
- It's, probably, the most popular chess program among
professionals. It has a big chess data of games. Many years ago, in 1993, Fritz took 1-2
place with Kasparov on a very prestigious blitz-tournament. It plays now rather better, in
the serious match (with the classic time control) Kramnik-Fritz (on supercomputer) in 2002
was the draw: +2, -2, =4. Probably, one of the best variants for strong amateurs.
