Arkady Timofeevich Averchenko (1881-1925) is a most popular Russian satirist of the beginning of XX century. He is 1st great humorist in Russian literature and a really classic, great Russian writer. His main works are short humoristic stories.
The list of the biggest Russian satirists of XX century is simple: Averchenko, Zoschenko (1894-1958), Ilf & Petrov (1897-1937, 1904-1942). Probably, Averchenko is #1 in this list. He a little reminds Jerome K. Jerome and Anton Chekhov. His heroes usually - Russian aristocrates of big towns like St. Petersburg. He was also a real gentleman; and real citizen: in 1917-1920 he took active part in the anti-communist movement in Russia (as writer). Then he left Russia. His death in 1925 (Prague) was a sensation and a tragedy for Russian literature.
